If you are affected or threatened by domestic violence and are at least 18 years old, you can enter the Women’s Refuge of Basel-Stadt and Baselland, with or without your children. The refuge is a safe place with a secret address.

A counsellor will support you and your children on your way to a violence-free future and assist you with:

  • Processing the violence you have experienced
  • Developing new perspectives
  • Connecting with specialists
  • Clarifying legal matters
  • Handling administrative tasks
  • Organising your children’s daily routines

Our understanding team speaks several languages. You can also call us together with a friend or a trusted person who speaks English (or German) and can support you. Once you are in the refuge, we work with interpreters if needed.

 Please bring the following for you and your children:

  • Personal documents (ID cards, residence permits, etc.)
  • Health insurance documents
  • Bank cards
  • Essential medication
  • Clothes
  • Children’s favourite toys
  • Valuables

If this is not possible, we will find a solution. The most necessary items are available in the house.

The location of the refuge is secret to protect the women and children currently living here. Call us and we will explain everything.

Can I bring my children without permission?

Yes. You have the right to bring your children for protection from domestic violence. You do not need the father’s permission.

Do I have to pay to enter the refuge?

No. You can enter the refuge even if you have no income. We will review your financial situation with you.

Do I have to file a police report?

The decision to file a report is yours. It is not required to enter the refuge, and no information is automatically sent to the police.
